BiocSol

AgTech

BiocSol develops next-generation biopesticides through their proprietary platform, harnessing well-defined natural compounds produced by beneficial microorganisms.

Their journey began with a clear mission: to provide biological alternatives to synthetic pesticides. The potato sector—especially in Wallonia, the region’s largest consumer of crop protection products—was in urgent need of sustainable solutions against late blight.

BiocSol’s story traces back to 2012 in the plant health and microbiology laboratories of UCLouvain, where they identified promising biocontrol agents effective against multiple potato pathogens. Simon Caulier’s doctoral research further clarified their modes of action and led to the characterization of key bacterial metabolites, laying the groundwork for practical agricultural applications.

Today, BiocSol extends far beyond the lab. They have established a robust business model, secured their intellectual property, and attracted both private and public investors.

Their vision is clear: to become a leading force in developing and commercializing effective, environmentally friendly, and sustainable plant protection solutions.
